Every time we've traveled with medical equipment, we've found the process seems to move more smoothly when we have the bags clearly labeled - airline staff can see that our extra carry-on is medical equipment, and they HOPEFULLY treat that bag a bit more carefully if they need to rearrange the overhead bins.
